Clarence is the author of the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Edition Big Book Story, "HOME BREWMEISTER."
Clarence Snyder, the Cleveland, Ohio AA pioneer gave this AA talk at The Blackstone Retreat in Blackstone, Virginia on April 1st, 1963. Clarence formed the first AA group in Cleveland in 1939. He was sponsored by Dr Bob, and here he tells how Dr Bob twelfth stepped him in Akron City Hospital. He talks about his early sobriety, some of which qualifies as AA history. He tells how the Cleveland contingent of the Akron Oxford Group broke away because of its many Catholic members and the need for a group made up solely of alcoholics and their families. He talks about the steps and his straightforward and practical approach. Clarence has a confident sureness and direct approach to things. He believes in doing it and moving on to the next thing. He doesn't like to evade the heart of the matter. He tells us that there are things best not watered down. These are not quotes but they summarize Clarence's direct approach and unflinching style. This talk is informative, enjoyable and capable of holding a listener's interest. He has an honest and straightforward way of expressing his opinion and of clearing up some misconceptions that have crept into the fellowship.
