CLARENCE SNYDER - ATHENS, TN 1960 Clarence is the author of the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Edition Big Book Story, "HOME BREWMEISTER." Clarence Snyder, "The Man Who Started Alcoholics Anonymous in Cleveland, Ohio'" recorded this early AA talk in Athens, Tennessee in 1960. At the time of this talk, he had moved to St Petersburg, Florida. He tells a good part of his story in this talk. Clarence says at one point in his drinking career, he became so unemployable that even his wife who was the head of the unemployment office could not get him a job. He ended up making his way to the waterfront in New York City where he lived drunk on the streets for quite some time. By the time he made his way back to Cleveland, his wife had heard of a doctor in Akron who could cure drunks. Clarence tells about his first meeting with Doctor Bob and how intimidated he was by him. He believes that once you have completed the first nine steps of the program, it is then necessary to continue to works steps ten, eleven, and twelve only because by then your drinking problem is over but you must maintain your spirituality. At the end of this talk, Clarence says, "I wish the best for every one of you. It's been a great pleasure being here. I hope someday we can get together again. C'mon down to Florida sometime. It's been a great pleasure on my first trip to Tennessee." Contents - 14 Tracks Length - 70 Minutes |
