WARREN Y - NEW LONDON, OH JUNE 2006
Warren, from Erie, Pennsylvania, recorded this Alcoholics Anonymous talk at the 24th New London Campout Conference in New London, Ohio in June of 2006. His date of sobriety is April 13th, 1986. Wayne was an only child and because of that he never learned how to share. The family doctor was the one that eventually told him about his disease of alcoholism. Wayne tells how he used the four absolutes to get him through the ordeal of having to take his wife off of life support. He says he feels very blessed because he’s not only been able to live to completely different lives in one lifetime, but in addition to that he has the ability to choose which one he wants to live today. He continues to attend AA meeting today because they give him HOPE – Hearing Other People’s Experiences.

WAYNE BUTLER - ROCKY POINT, MEXICO 10-16-99
Wayne recorded this Alcoholics Anonymous talk at the 6th Annual Rocky Point Round-Up in Mexico. Wayne gives his sobriety date as November 8th, 1977. He was 22 years sober at the time of this talk. He says that at the age of 18 he was diagnosed by a panel of seven psychiatrists as an irreversible psychopath. They told him that he did not have the capacity to love. Wayne was diagnosed in 9th grade as being severely emotionally retarded. His nickname was “Retardo.” He continued to drink for five more years after joining AA. Wayne is a firm believer in allowing the active alcoholic to attend AA meetings, and anybody that thinks that they should not, “Have forgotten where they came from.” At the end of his talk Wayne says, “If you’re not in the winner’s circle, it’s real easy to do. Put one hand in the hand of your loving father, God. Put your other hand in the hand of a newcomer and you’ll not have a hand left to pick up a drink. Thank you for letting me share.”

WAYNE BUTLER - TORONTO, CANADA 3-1-00
Wayne Butler, from Santa Monica, California gave this Alcoholics Anonymous talks on March 1st, 2000 in Toronto Canada. Wayne has quite a sense of humor and even when he’s telling about some of his more serious drinking consequences, he does it in such a way that make it seem humorous. At the time of this AA talk, Wayne had been sober for 22 years. At one time while still drinking in Moline, Illinois, Wayne got so bad that his own family filed a restraining order on him just to keep him away from them. He tells about the time that his father visited him while he was living in his “dumpster” and asked him to come back home. Wayne told him, “No thanks Dad, I’m doing just fine.” Wayne was quite a “slipper” in his early days of AA, but once he grabbed on to the program, he never let go. His gratitude is very obvious in this recording.

WAYNE BUTLER - YORK, PA 8-16-03
This guy has got to be the most outrageous AA speaker around. He’s so quick witted you’ve really got to pay attention. He’s extremely humorous. Wayne, from Santa Monica, California recorded this Alcoholics Anonymous talk at the Sixth Annual Sunlight of the Spirit Conference in York, Pennsylvania. Wayne has the crowd laughing right at the outset of his talk. He said he knew something was wrong with him very early in life. He’s always felt like a Rubik’s Cube with the colors all jumbled up and he’s been click, click, clicking away his entire life trying to get the colors to match up. Wayne says he grew up in an alcoholic home, that did not make him an alcoholic but it definitely put a spin on his personality. Wayne’s mama, a professional wrestler, was kind of different. She was the only one in the family who had tattoos. Wayne has been in seventeen different psychiatric wards. He tells some great stories about Thorazine. This talk is a mixture of outrageously funny stuff mixed with some serious stuff and at the end of the talk Wayne says, “I hope you find some hope in that talk. I hope I have infused you newcomers and those of you who need to be renewed with a little bit of inspiration and hope so that one day you’ll get on with the business of living. Thank you.”
